Wilderness, Wit, and Wisdom.
My team and I collaborated with the Lenape people (a Native American Tribe) and the Centennial School District of Pennsylvania for a project. Our goal was to integrate Lenape culture into the Social Studies curriculum of the schools. We achieved this through consistent communication with all three parties.
Moment of Use
To start this project, I was named “Team Lead.” I met with my team and the client to discuss everything we needed to know. From those meetings, we got more context on the client, defined our design problem, set up milestones to receive feedback on important design elements, and declared the moment of use, or when the students will be using this intervention.
Audience
After defining our problem and milestones, the team crafted the learner personas and audience overview. I compiled one persona (Jason Hawthron), the audience overview, and learning outcome and assessment two; after completing our rough draft, we sent it to the SME for review.
Design Plan
After intense review from both the team and the SME, we got the okay to push forward and begin building out our design plan. Our design plan went through iterations as we wanted to create something that truly put the Lenape people, the school district, and the team would be proud. I was in charge of module 2, the visuals for the design plan, and sending the plan out to the SMEs for review.
Design Prototype
After careful review from the SMEs, we began prototyping our project. Due to life situations, I was put in charge of modules 2 and 4 from here on out. THe hardest part about prototyping these designs was having to parse through the Lenape matieral and making it fourth grade friendly for the students. On top of that, having to get footage of the applicanaian trail in Pennslyviana without being able to visit. Forunately we were able to find a Youtube video that had everything we needed and create our own voice over to point out all of the plants we wanted the students to learn about.
Final Design
After we finished the prototype, I sent it to the SMEs for review. They enjoyed our prototype and got the okay to continue with the project. Due to one of our constraints for this project being we had to use programs that the school currently uses, such as Nearpod and Canvas. I got the team together to go over all the features of Nearpod and Canvas. The goal of the meeting was for us to be learn Nearpod and get it full integrated into Canvas. With that said, we successfully transferred our designs from Canva into Nearpod with interactive activities and assessments for the students that the teachers can easily integrate into Canvas seemlessly.
Teacher Guide
The last thing we did for this project was to create a teacher’s guide for the client so that they could understand how to use the training we built quickly. Also, we gave them an assessment sheet where we tied every assessment to a teaching standard in Peenslyviana so they could tell which assessment was for what standard.
